NaNoWriMo 2022… But why?

I made my first attempt at NaNoWriMo last year, and I successfully hit that 50,000 word target by the end November, but needed another nine days to reach the end of the first draft. And now, 12 months and many rounds of edits later, that book is almost out in the world! And that book is my debut cosy mystery, Murder on Milverton Square, which is up for pre-order and will be released on 8 November 2022 – a mere 8 days away!

But what does that have to do with NaNoWriMo 2022? This year, I’m attempting to write the sequel, Poison at Penshaw Hall!

I’ve got a title, a cover image, a blurb, a page on my author website, a NaNoWriMo project page (participant login required), and I’ve even set it up for a long pre-order on Amazon (US, UKCA, AU)… Now I just need to write the thing!

Poison at Penshaw Hall (A Milverton Mystery) by G B Ralph. Cover image and book blurb:

Addison Harper is back, and with another dead body at his feet. Only this time, the entire town saw it happen.

Milverton has been shortlisted for the Terrific Town Award, so a dramatic death at the unveiling ceremony is far from ideal. Addison had only been lending a hand, but now finds himself much more involved than he’d ever hoped. To think his biggest worry before had been his upcoming date with Sergeant Jake Murphy.

As for the Sergeant, he can hardly ignore a hall full of witnesses even if he wanted to. And they’re all pointing the finger at his date, Milverton’s newest arrival, Addison Harper.
Poison at Penshaw Hall (A Milverton Mystery) by G B Ralph. Cover image and series blurb:

Poison at Penshaw Hall is the latest in a wonderful new cosy mystery series set in an enchanting small town nestled amongst stunning New Zealand scenery. The Milverton Mysteries features a chaotic cast of local busybodies, delicious baked treats, a demanding and disdainful ginger cat, a very slow-burn romance with a rather appealing policeman, and of course, murder…

I’ll be documenting this possible train wreck over on Twitter, and you are most welcome to watch: @gbralph. If you’re attempting this ill-advised campaign alongside me, come and buddy request me (user: gbralph) and we’ll egg each other on!

Now, to prepare for tomorrow…
