The next Milverton Mystery has hit another important milestone now that the story edit is done! Sometimes called the developmental or structural edit, this involved cracking open the messy first draft of Poison at Penshaw Hall and getting to grips with the big picture.
Does it have good bones? Does one scene flow to the next? Does the story make sense? Are the characters keeping me interested in what’s going on?
I find this stage real hard work. When I’m in the middle of it, I often can’t tell if I’m making progress, or just muddling it further. Which makes coming out the other side with something much more book-shaped all the more satisfying!
Now it’s time for me to zoom in for the line edits and the copy edits, which is where I get to make every scene, paragraph, and sentence really hum.
