Mark Stay has invited me to join him for his monthly livestream where he chats with fellow authors about “their writing and the little things that can make all the difference to the creative process.”

Mark is a wonderful interviewer and I am fizzing with anticipation for our upcoming livestreamed chat. I’ve really enjoyed watching the previous episodes (with S.C. Gowland, L.J. Shepherd, Zoë Richards, and Mike Shackle) from both the reader and the writer perspective. I’m excited to have a go myself!
Even better: it’s recorded live, which means you can get involved too! Everyone in the live audience will be free to cheer, boo, heckle (be nice!), and ask questions in the chat – which is asking for trouble, I know, but we’re feeling brave. I’d love for you to join us:
Going live: Mon 9 Dec, 8pm GMT / Tue 10 Dec, 9am NZDT / etc
There’s bound to be drama, excitement, festivities, and we might even say something interesting. Anything is possible…

Who is this Mark Stay bloke?
Well! For anyone who doesn’t know, he is the author of The Witches of Woodville series, wonderful books which I may have mentioned once or twice (firstly here, then here, and here, here, and most recently here).
And then there’s The End of Magic trilogy, of which I am very impatiently waiting for the third (and presumably final) volume! A highlight from the second book The End of Dragons (which I talked about here) involved my namesake:
Gav, a man with a face like three slapped arses squashed together, poured something warm, brown and foaming from a barrel’s tap.
– The End of Dragons, Mark Stay
He is also a screenwriter: Robot Overlords (BFI, 2015), Unwelcome (Warner Bros, 2023), worked in publishing and bookselling for over 25 years, and was co-presenter of the writing podcast The Bestseller Experiment. This is where I first came across Mark, following his now legendary (infamous?) interview with Ben Aaronovitch over seven years ago: Episode 22 – Ben Aaronovitch and the Great Bollocking.
The Creative Differences podcast is a new initiative from Mark Stay, with my chat being only the fifth episode! You can find all the information on the Creative Differences podcast website.
Anyway, see you there?
