A quick walk around some real-life Milverton locations

My partner, a friend, and I explored some wetlands on the weekend. Here we are squinting into the sun in front of one of the new sculptures:

The new walking tracks were completed alongside Te Ahu a Turanga (Manawatū Tararua Highway), the construction of which may or may not have provided inspiration for major plot points in the first Milverton Mystery, Murder on Milverton Square.

Then there’s the railway passing over the river and skirting the wetland before running under the new road and through the gorge which will have a starring role in the next novel, Killer on the Kelvin Explorer.

I took a picture of the huge map near the carpark and cafe which shows the river, road, rail, walking, and cycling paths through the Manawatū Gorge.

But where’s Milverton? You’ll have to use your imagination, but Milverton would be located at the western end of the Manawatū Gorge around where the State Highway 57 shield is shown on this map:

The Milverton Mysteries by G. B. Ralph. Book cover images and series blurb. A delightful cosy mystery series set in an enchanting small town nestled amongst stunning New Zealand scenery. Investigate The Milverton Mysteries for a chaotic cast of local busybodies, delicious baked treats, a demanding and disdainful ginger cat, a very slow-burn romance with a rather appealing policeman, and of course… murder!
