With the movie about to drop on Netflix, it’s reminded me of Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim, and Ron’s antics at Coopers Chase. Did you enjoy The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman and are now looking for a book recommendation or two? I’ve got you covered!
The Thursday Murder Club sequels
Of course, you can jump right into the sequels: The Man Who Died Twice, The Bullet That Missed, The Last Devil to Die, and the upcoming release The Impossible Fortune.
Other books with similar vibes
Or are you looking for something a bit different that still features a fun murder mystery, perhaps some quirky sleuths, and/or maybe some senior citizens getting up to mischief? I’ve grabbed a mix of a few of my (relevant) favourites from my shelves and I cheekily threw in one of mine too.
I’ve put together a brief overview below or scroll to the end if you prefer to get your book recs in video format.

The Windsor Knot (Her Majesty the Queen Investigates #1) by S.J. Bennett follows 89-year-old Queen Elizabeth and her trusted secretary as they investigate the murder of a guest at Windsor Castle, described as “Miss Marple meets The Crown”.
Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone (Ernest Cunningham #1) by Benjamin Stevenson cleverly and hilariously plays with expectations of the mystery genre following a murder during a family reunion at an Australian ski resort. Everyone’s a killer, but who’s the murderer?
Murder on Milverton Square (The Milverton Mysteries #1) by G.B. Ralph follows gay millennial Addison Harper investigating the death of a prickly lawyer in small-town New Zealand with the help of his 70-plus-year-old sidekick Mabel Zhou.
Agatha Christie‘s Miss Marple needs no introduction, but I couldn’t put together a list featuring sleuthing seniors without her. Miss Marple’s Final Cases is a collection of short stories which are great if you’re just looking for a quick read.
The Secret Diary of Hendrik Groen, 83ΒΌ Years Old by Hendrik Groen follows the charming antics of a curmudgeon who founds the Old-But-Not-Dead Club to stir up trouble at his retirement home.
Dead Girl Gone (The Bookshop Detectives #1) by Gareth Ward & Louise Ward follows the arrival of a mystery parcel at the Sherlock Tomes bookshop in small-town Havelock North, New Zealand, drawing the former police officers, now bookshop owners, into the investigation of an intriguing cold case.
